Description

Build your own SDC/LDC Microphone Bundle

All these mics are hand-built in our Califorrnia workshop.  Every mic is individually soldered, assembled, tested, and tuned, burned in on our proprietary burn rack, and extensively tested prior to shipping.

All of the SDC/LDC bundles are $150 off through Dec 2; use code BF25-SDCBUNDLES

SDC options:

  • The "SDC" is our transformerless pencil mic. The circuit is based on the Schoeps CMC5.
  • The "SDC-84" is our version of the Neumann KM-84i. Note that this is very different from the current production KM-184, which is a transformerless design with a very bright voicing. Our SDC-84 is darker, and retains the heft of the vintage KM-84i's circuit design (a "charge amp" topology) and transformer.

LDC options:

Choose from any of the four Mini K models, the KD, or the Cab Mic.

About The Package

The flight case holds the LDC mic, its Cutaway shockmount, the SDC mic, and its shockmount. The die-cut foam has room for a second pencil mic and second SDC shockmount, which would be empty for the bundle configurations on this page.

Availability

Allow 3-5 business days for SDC assembly; these mics are built to order.

"The Roswell Cab Mic has become one of my go-to mics for electric guitar. The smooth top end and robust lows make the mic easy to dial in. I can place the mic in the center of the cone without any harshness. I never feel the need to add another mic to balance missing frequencies; just move this mic around the cone a bit to get the tone I want without any phase issues from a second mic. Highly recommended!"

"One of the things I like about the Roswell Cab Mic is that it accurately reproduces my dynamic range and the dynamic range of the amplifier. When I pick soft, it’s clean. And when I pick harder, the gain on the amp is triggered. This mic reveals and transmits that perfectly.

"The Roswell Cab Mic sounds clear, open, and uncompressed. It sounds musical with any amount of gain, distortion, or overdrive. To me, it sounds like you’re standing in front of the amp and listening with your ears."

“This is a fantastic mic. Small and easy to move around, with a great gain structure and an immediately pleasing tone. Detailed and musical.”

“It is remarkable how 'even' this mic sounds on everything from acoustic guitars to drums. The Mini K87 has a neutral, full bodied replication of the U87 that so many companies reach for but somehow fall short of. Every studio should invest in a matched pair of these to add to their arsenal of microphones! The fact that all of this is packed into a portable, easy to position form factor is a huge plus. This is the first time I’ve ever bought a brand new microphone for under $450 and had a 'WOW' kind of moment. Highly recommended!”

“I might recommend a Mini K87 pair, or a Mini K47/K87 mixed pair, before I would consider a single $800-$900. mic. Seriously, these mics sound that good.”

"Although it's not intended as a direct clone, the SDC-84 gets as close to the [KM84] sound as anything else I've tried."

"I have a Neumann KM184 and a Soyuz 013 … Never used them again since I got a matched pair of SDC-84s."
