- See below for more detailed information on the circuit modification options for each model.
Cosmetic Options for the Mini K series

Custom finish options for these mics are produced in small quantities. This enables us to rotate through a wide variety of options. Pictured at right are some the options we have offered over the past 18 months.
See the currently available color options within the Custom Shop Mic Builder Tool (see the "start here" link above). If the color you want is no longer available, the cost to pre-order special colors is $150. Expect a 60-day turnaround. Contact us with your color request.

Packaging Options for the Mini K series
The standard Mini K mics include our famous Cutaway™ shockmount (a design we pioneered in 2016, which has since been copied by at least three larger companies), and an upgraded flight case.
We also offer the "LC Edition," a simpler and smaller package designed to accommodate tighter budgets. The LC Edition mics do not include our Cutaway shockmount or flightcase; they ship in a cardboard carton with a heavy-duty swivel mount.
Circuit Modifications for the Mini K series
Mini K47 / Mini K87 Circuit Modification Options |
||||
| "High Output" Mod | "High SPL" / Pad Switch Mod | Omni Pattern Mod | ||
|
We designed the standard Mini K47 and Mini K87 with headroom to accommodate a wide range of sources, from voices to drums. We recommend the standard edition (not the High Output option) for most customers, unless you seek the highest level of versatility, in which case you could order both the High Output option and the internal pad switch option. If you would only ever record very quiet sources, such as classical (nylon string) guitar, foley, or ensembles, choose the High Output mod. If you would record a mix of quiet and loud sources, do not choose the High Output mod. For quiet VO narration, the High Output mod can be useful but is not required. For character voices and singing, the High Output mod is not recommended. |
We can optionally install an internal switch into these mics to provide a 10dB attenuation pad (non-capacitive, low distortion). This would likely only be needed for recording very loud sources, such as horns, or if you wish to artificially lower the mic's output in order to hear more of the preamp's contribution to the sound. If you record a mix of loud and quiet sources, and wish to have the most versatility, add both the High Output and Pad Switch options to your mic. That gives you the best of both worlds, at the small cost of having to open the mic to access the internal pad switch when you need to turn it on or off. |
The standard Mini K47 / Mini K87 have a Cardioid polar pattern. We can optionally install a dual-sided capsule and wire it as Omnidirectional instead. This mod is not switchable; there is no room in the mic for a pattern switch. Choose this if you need Omni rather than Cardioid for your application. If you are new to recording and do not understand what Cardioid and Omni mean, do not order the Omni mod. |

Mini K47x / Mini K67x Circuit Modification Options |
||||
| "High SPL" Mod aka "Pad Switch" | "High Output" Mod (K67x only) | |||
|
Matched pairs of the Mini K47x and Mini K67x come with this upgrade by default. We can add it to single mics by request. The mod adds an internal pad switch, which provides a 10dB increase in headroom. |
We designed the Mini K67x to accommodate moderate-volume sources: vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, percussion. If your applications include very quiet sources (nylon string guitar, voiceover, etc), we can make two changes to the circuit to optimize the gain staging. If you choose the "high output" mod, we strongly recommend also choosing the pad switch option. |

Circuit Modifications
The Delphos II has won praise from hundreds of artists and producers for its neutral and musical sound. If your application requires a brighter or darker frequency curve, we can build to that spec. Every Delphos II is hand-tuned in our shop, so we can voice this model to meet your needs.
Although the Colares was designed to provide effortless harmonic saturation, we have complete control over the amount of saturation in the circuit. If your application requires the Colares' clarity without any harmonic color, we can tune the circuit accordingly.
The amount of attenuation provided by the pad switch in these mics is easily changed, if you prefer more or less than the standard 10dB. Similarly, the rolloff frequencies for the two filter options in the Colares can be easily adjusted.
