I purchased a stereo pair of the mini K87s a couple months ago and I couldn't be happier. They capture an incredibly honest, rich and detailed sound of everything I put in front of them. I'm super picky about my drums and cymbals and these mics capture every nuance and tone with accuracy. They nail the specific dark, slightly trashy with a woody stick articulation of my cymbals while getting all the body and punch of my drums. I could seriously get a great sound with just these and a kick mic. I've also tried them on female vocals, classical guitar, and male podcast dialog so far and they sound fantastic on all. I also love the personal touch you get with Roswell, expert advice and quick interactions, I know I'm in good hands.

When I received my mini k87 pair I recorded a vox demo along with my blue blueberry to listen back and compare. Wow, what a noticable difference!! Everything was clearer. It sounded very true to how I perceive my voice. I could especially hear a new clarity and forward placement in my falsetto. Thanks for the incredible mics, Matt!

So good that... After testing a mini47 for a couple of hours on every thing that comes in my hands: percussion, vocal, guitar, clarinette, sax, I'm ordering a first matched pair of mini87 to get things with Roswell sound in stereo. Mini47 can be compare with the best microphones I've heard in 30 years of professionnal recording. Thanks people of Roswell!!

I bought a matched pair of k87 and used them to record a guitar track. These mics are straight forward, a.k.a. if you have a good sounds coming out, you'll get good sound going in. Looking forward too using them on more sessions. Love the shockmount, easy to use.

I'm no expert, just a hobbyist. Before getting the Mini K87, in comparing my SM57 with A81WS (windscreen) vs AT4050, my impressions were that the humble SM57 held it's own--I felt that it was more open sounding, punching through the rest of instruments, whereas the AT4050 was "accurate", had a flatter frequency response, but was more muddy sounding (that could have been result of proximity effect) and boring. I actually concluded (in agreement with the widespread use of the SM57) that in a pinch, I could use the SM57 anywhere on anything, and 99% of the (casual) listeners wouldn't know (or care about) the difference. But, I'm a bang for the buck kind of consumer, and was still drawn to the Roswells. However, I was concerned that buying the Mini K87 was buying "more of the same thing", i.e. a flat responding mic, as opposed to getting something to spread my sonic diversity.
So, I put up the SM57 with A81WS, AT4050, and this Mini K87, using a familiar male vocal as a source.
Admittedly, this comparison was quick and dirty, and the caveats are 1) I took 3 takes (one on each mic) instead of 1 take with 3 mics simultaneously, because the DAW I was using couldn't multitrack (arrrgh), 2) the levels weren't matched exactly, and 3) only tested on a male vocal I know well. Distance to each of condensers was about 6-8", and much closer, almost kissing, on the SM57 with big windscreen.
To my surprise, the Mini K87 sounded more open, transparent, alive, airy, light (but not thin), etc. than either of the other 2 mics, especially when its frequency response was similar to the AT4050. Next, I'd like to try takes on acoustic guitar, female vocals, and possibly drum overheads, but my initial impressions are that I love these mics on male vocal and can't wait to try them out on other sources. Definitely vaporized my concerns!

The Mini K87s work incredibly well on acoustic & electric instruments and vocals. They're extended frequency response and natural sound works wonders on any source not unlike U67s. I love using them as room mics on drums. Crush them with Distressors and you've got gold.
