The Mini K87 was one of several looked, listened to and purchased. It was one of the best

I adore the way my mini-k87 records vocals. Clear, crisp, and clean.
Michael H.
Popped it in line, and WOW!! The sound of this, next to my Sennheiser 416 was astronomically brilliant!! I wasn’t expecting it to blow me away like that, but it did and does, every time I light it up for a spot, or an audition!!
Brett
Amazing microphone, the sonics compete with my 2000 dollar mic!
Ryan
Outstanding microphone for my audiobook recordings! Paired with an SSL2 and my noise floor is extremely low. The flat response of the mic works perfectly with my voice. Completely worth the price! Would highly recommend to anyone needing an upgrade.

I've been recording a new album now for just over a year. All of my lead vocals, including several acoustic guitar tracks were recorded with my Mini K 47 Thought I would go rent a "big mic" and try a song out to see if there was a significant difference. So I started with a $2,000 (Canadian) AKG mic. No difference. Then I bit the bullet and rented a $5000 Neumann U-87. Still no difference. I think you guys built an amazing microphone and the average Joe can afford one. Good on you guys.

I record audiobooks and wanted something with a flat response, low self-noise, and very sensitive. Found the K87 high output and haven't looked back. I'm no audio engineer, but I can definitely hear a massive difference from my AT2035, even without applying any EQ! The quality, packaging, and support are unparalleled. Completely worth the money. If you're considering it, just get it. You won't regret it.

Ridiculously clear and clean audio on the first recording! Love how easy it was to setup and looks very clean in the studio!

I'm a nobody today, with just a few months exp with inferior equipment, But by just changing two key elements, a Focuserite 2i2 Gen 4 USB interface and this Mini K87 Condenser Microphone Dynamic Range (standard) My audio has gone from entry level basic sound to true fidelity and quality.
It is worth every penny and if you are looking to improve your sound quality this will do the trick!

I read good reviews and found that Roswell makes their mics not far from my house. How could I say no? It sounds like what I hear when I play. I look forward to a long satisfying relationship.
Brett S.
I own a Brauner Phanthera mic worth 2000 dollars, and let me tell you this k87 sounds just as good. It's a true workhorse microphone that sounds amazing.
Michael P.
Finally decided to go with a new all around workhorse microphone and I found it. After doing much research and knowing my budget, I found these microphones to have some of the best reviews out there. Some of the top pros in the industry were flabbergasted by the mic’s quality and affordability. I have many vocals to re-record now, and these also sound amazing on cabs. Just buy it already and thank me later.

The K87 has been a tremendous upgrade for my humble home studio. While I've never had the opportunity to work with the expensive microphones that it is being compared to I've been extremely impressed with its performance. The depth and clarity of my recordings have an even better than the real thing quality to them with no need for any EQ or other filters. The one drawback is that now I want to re-record everything I've ever done with my "affordable" microphones! This might be the best piece of studio equipment I've ever purchased.
Mark B.
The Mini K87 is a wonderful sounding mic, very transparent. I hear the source as my ears hear it. And combined with a ribbon mic, it can make things perfect! Tremendous value!
Jeremy B.
This mic is described as smooth and natural, and that's exactly what I was looking for. The low end is beautifully robust, and there's zero harshness in the upper frequencies. I love it! I've owned a number of mics, including several Neumann TLMs (102, 103, 193) over the years, and at least for my voice, I prefer the K87.
This thing is also dead silent and incredibly sensitive! I can't remember the last time I had my gain set so low. I'm also inclined to believe the high output version has an even lower self-noise than the 12dB that is listed. A big thanks to Matt and the rest of the team for all of the work put into making this mic!
Jody M.
The Mini K87 has found its way onto every session since it arrived at my home studio. It is a well made, great sounding, affordable tool that can handle multiple duties. I'm also a fan of the shock mount. I think I might need a second K87.
Chris
I bought the High Output K87 with the goal of voiceover work. I wanted an upgrade on the brighter entry level LDC's and I am pleased with the results. I've done 50-60 hours of voiceover and I find it to be neutral and transparent. Nice blank slate. Looking forward to trying it on some quieter music.

The Mini K87 excels on Vocals (Male/Female), Bass, Overheads, Piano Low End, Acoustic Guitar and Bass, Strings etc. Matt was so helpful helping me select mics for my studio that match what I am trying to do musically. The Mini K87 and less has Midrange than the Mini K47/47x and is more flat than the 67x. I have a Mini K87 in my main recording room for talkback, layering lead vocals and bass heavy instruments. Thanks Matt & Roswell Pro Audio. My mics shipped next day locally within Sonoma County so that was great service. The custom blue finish I couldn't resist and looks way nicer. We put a silver dot in the mic port to let us know which was the 67x and which was the 87. They both sound very nice through my mixing console direct into Pro Tools, very nice mics. I can't wait to put them through my new vocal chain (WA 73 EQ/BLA Bluey 1176 Clone/Tascam Model 12 Mixer - Pro Tools).
Taylor R.
An absolutely great microphone for the price. It has a warm, yet clear tone, especially with voices. The quality and sensitivity is comparable to microphones that cost twice as much. I also want to highlight the incredible customer service I received from Roswell when I ordered the wrong sensitivity for the microphone. Matt is passionate about his product and it shows in the care and attention he gives.
Joel
The Mini K87 is designed to be a transformerless FET mic this mic will sound like the U87. There is a frequency response very similar to a U87 based mic, natural frequency response with transformerless electronics. I like this on acoustic guitar, male vocals, overheads, piano and bass guitar amps. It excells where you need a flat response and a very dark mic with a natural sound. I have only gotten to demo spoken word so far but I love this mic. It will best mics many times more expensive even with transformers. This mic is transformerless. It's a beautiful sounding mic I especially like the custom finish. Enjoy!

Simply put, I’m blown away. I didn’t even fully realize how much I was fighting against the brightness and sibilance of other mics I had been using until I worked with a more balanced and neutral mic like this one. The mini K87 has an excellent form factor and an unbelievably good and balanced sound. I don’t see myself reaching for any other mic any time soon. It easily and handily outperforms other mics I’ve used, which were often three times the price or more.
Marc
I have been using the Mini K87 now for eight months for recording bass-baritone classical vocals for my YouTube channel. It has yielded excellent results. I consider it the finest microphone that I have ever tried. I also appreciate very much Matt's help and advice in response to some questions that I had early on. In short, I highly recommend this microphone.
Wally O.
This lil baddie packs a punch, and sounds much more open than my NT2-A. Still love that big old mic, but this one really seems to complement my voice and isn't so heavy & bulky like the Rode mic is.
K87 will be my main for a while :) Thanks Matt!
Kim A.
Easy to use, sound quality is amazing and the seller was so helpful when I needed a change to my order. Would recommend!
Daniel C.
Gorgeous mic in the custom metallic blue paint. Absolutely love the honest sound for VO. Easily worth the price. Will recommend time and time again!
Dan W.
The mini K87 is Amazing. I’ve never found a better mic for my vocals. Combined with the mini K47, it captures a perfect blend of nearly every other instrument.
Thank You, Matt and Crew! You’ve re-inspired the world of recording for musicians!
Jeremy Daw
Since getting my mini k87 I have used it on 6 or 7 different acoustic type stringed instruments, hand percussion, and vocals. It’s definitely a go to mic for me in my small studio. I have also A/B’d it against 15-20 quality mics (including a vintage Neumann u87) in a larger studio and I preferred the Roswell mini k87 for overall sound and range of application over the other mics. My only regret is I didn’t buy a matched pair!

In our search for a mic for exclusive use for cartoon voice acting, we purchased a Mini K87 (high output circuit version), after an email discussion with Matt. The mic performs better than expected, and already sounds better and more flexible than more expensive mics we own. Sounds fantastic without any processing, but I very surprised how good it sounds with some on-the-fly preamp compression too. Has that very big, luscious sound, but suits all our needs for a go-to voice acting mic. The high output version makes it sound great plugged into any preamp - hiss will never be an issue. I have to compliment the comprehensive manual that accompanies it too - I wish I had that booklet 20 years ago! The Mini K87 should serve as our #1 mic in our animation studio in Tasmania for many years to come.
Chantha K.
I initially reached out to Matt about buying my first XLR microphone and he suggested the Mini K87. It sounds amazing and I am very happy about my purchase. I can't compare it to other XLR microphones as it's my first, but the build quality is top-tier. Thank you again Matt for helping me out!
Chris
Had been shopping around for a new, versatile mic for awhile - and this was the perfect choice! Find myself reaching for it in almost every circumstance, from voice over to guitars. For my preferences, it out performs mics in much higher price ranges. Bonus points for the perfect shockmount design.
Anton B.
I'd first ordered the k67, as I'm a fan of the U67, but found the mini k67 to be a little "too nice" for my nasal voice! Meaning, it brought out low mids that I wasn't quite used to hearing. I did get a good handful of keepers recorded with it, all needing a touch of EQ tweakery to tame the NPR Beast I'd suddenly become! It was a tricky call to send the k67 back home, but when the mini k87 arrived, I knew I had the right mic for my voice. The 87 worked beautifully out of the box and I'm as pleased as can be. I mean, for such an affordable mic to sound THIS good is almost weird!
Wendell Y.
Much smoother than many of the U87s you might run across. The thing with those vintage mics is they all sounded very different which is why it was a big deal to get a "matched" pair. I am betting I could get another Mini K87 tomorrow and throw it up as the other side of stereo and get the job done without anyone noticing because modern mics are much more consistent in functionality. Digressing; if you like the qualities of a good sounding U87 you'll like this one and maybe even a little bit more. If you're looking for an exact sonic replica of a U87 you personally heard in the 1990s, you likely won't find that here although for the price, you'll never regret having this one in your mic locker.

After deciding to repurpose my AKG C414s for use as drum overheads, I was looking for another general purpose mic. I initially tried the Shure SM7B, which is an excellent sounding mic, but I wasn't fond on having to keep it so close to my face all the time. So after a little research I landed on the mini k87 and I couldn't be happier. It sounds great. It feels great. It looks great. And even the customer service is top notch: I had a very minor issue with the shock mount that was resolved without delay. Now I'm eyeing a matched pair of mini k47s. Or maybe a Delphos II. I think I'm in trouble. :-)
Desmond L.
I love the tone, suits my voice excellently with no harshness or sibilance in the high ends which is what I was looking for.
Michael C.
It's a Swiss Army knife. It excels on vocals, it excels as a room mic for my drums, it sounds terrific about 3/4 a foot away from my bass cab pointed between the horn and the speaker — deep, rich and clear. I can't wait to see what else I can throw it on.
I have to add that the first mic I received had a loose capsule mount. I emailed Matt, he promptly offered to replace it, and also offered instructions in case I felt like trying to repair it myself. It turned out I wasn't capable of that, so he sent a new mic that arrived in two days. I'll also add that the replacement mic included a little pouch that didn't come with the original. What a nice touch!
Gotta show my appreciation for Matt and the team at Roswell. You guys rock. I'll definitely be purchasing another mic when I have the means.
Alex K.
I have been reading and watching videos on the mini k47 and k87. I purchased the mini k87 as an alternate to my all round primary microphone C414 TLII. The mini k87 delivered a very nice low end plus warmth consistently on all vocals (that is what I have used it for so far). I tried hard to continue with the C414 as my go to mic, but the mini k87 has now become my primary microphone. I also appreciate the great customer support and Matt's knowledge in this field is a testament that the mics are built with detailed attention. I shall be back for more. Thank You. Alex K.

I had been looking for a solid affordable mic for the past 2 years. Though there are many options, this mic finally won out the other options. Simply put, it is well built and does a remarkable job. Useful for an array of studio uses. I am looking forward to using this more and more and hope to aquire another one down the road.
Highly recommended. Thank you Roswell!

After months of regular online research and looking at all the various brands of condenser microphones available, I finally settled on the Roswell Audio Mini K87. This microphone produces such a clear, pristine and neutral sounding sound, which really captures the essence of my singing voice, while also giving me the flexibility to tweak the sound when mixing. Couldn't be happier. Such an awesome and great value microphone. Love it! Thanks Roswell Audio :)
Chris H.
I won a k87 from the monthly email prize and loved it so much I bought a second to make a pair. I just had a chance to use them as drum overheads and they captured an amazing image of the kit. I would describe them as full and detailed. I'm excited to find out what other sources they will shine on.
Stefan K.
I've had the K47 for a year, using it all the time, when I wanted one with a little more color. So naturally I got myself the super nice and warm sounding K87. You won't regret it!
Christopher D.
I bought this on a whim from an ad. VERY glad I did. In fact, another band member ended up buying one as well. This is just simply a great sounding mic.
Elaine B.
What a difference a good mic will do! My vocals sounds so clear and beautiful.
I loved the way Matt spoke with me. He talked with me like I have a brain and knowledge about sound.
The whole process was outstanding.

I love the warm, full-range, natural sound the Mini K87 provides. The lows are full, deep, and warm. The highs aren't harsh or thin. The natural, full-spectrum sound quality remained consistent over multiple instruments including voice and guitar.
l spent almost a year researching Roswell microphones to help me decide whether or not to buy one. I watched and listened to recording samples and workshops. I listened to reviews by professionals and musicians significantly more advanced than I am. I was impressed with the quality of the sound for the price of the microphone--it's truly a great value.
One of the key factors helping decide to buy a Roswell microphone was seeing the pride Matt has in his microphones. This is evidenced in how he talks about his mics, but also in his personalized customer services. To see someone who has as extensive technical knowledge and detailed research into microphone technology as he does be genuinely passionate about his own microphones tells me they have a sound and quality not to be ashamed about! So far that has proven true for me and I look forward to experimenting more with the Mini K87.

At the recommendation of an audio engineer acquaintance and the Tape Op review, I purchased the Mini K87 as a long-overdue upgrade for recording my own violin playing, occasional vocals, and general talking use. It's crystal clear, accurate, and synergizes well with my particularly dark and warm-sounding violin. The fancy case it came with will also come in very handy. Worth it, and glad I took a chance on this brand!
P.S. Behold my naïveté: I thought the beer cozies in the package were coffee cup holders until I was informed otherwise by amused, alcohol-drinking friends :P
James C.
I bought the Roswell mini k87 to go along side my other Roswell mic, a mini k47. I'm very happy with both as they cover all my recording bases and compliment each other well. Both mics are a fantastic value!! Great customer support and a timely email response by Matt McGlynn(the owner of Roswell) to questions I had regarding outboard gear that might work well with the two aforementioned mics.

Our first reaction when unboxing the Mini K-87 was “Oh, that really is a small mic”. Then we fired it up. “Wow! This little mic packs a big punch!” Like a three-times-the price punch.
I grabbed the Mini K-87 primarily for VO and dialogue. For this reason, I opted for Matt’s custom, higher output circuit, designed for low level sources like voice and acoustic instruments. Totally worth the upgrade. This circuit and capsule combo are straight up ballsy!
I ran the Mini through a Summit tube pre and a Focusrite interface. It proved strong in the mids with a surprisingly warm low end and detailed highs. The way it articulates consonants adds a richness to spoken word while handling transients smoothly.
We cut some radio imaging with it right away and needed minimal EQ and compression for it to pop in the mix. Worked it up against an industry standard Sennheiser 416 and it held it’s own nicely.
Bottom line...buy this mic. Buy 2 or three at this price. Its a super affordable way to take your podcast or VO sound to the pro-level.
Kyle T.
I've spent a lot of time and money upgrading different components of my recording rig. I wish someone had told me sooner to start with the microphone. The mini k87 has completely changed my rig and has taken my recordings to another level.
Joseph A.
The microphone is amazing I have looked long and hard for the microphone that would suit all my needs. This microphone really does a great job on vocals, acoustic guitar, and horns. I couldn’t be more pleased on this purchase and look forward to getting more of your microphones as my budget avails. Thanks again for a great product
William R.
I am using my RPA Mini’s (I own both models) to record vocals and acoustic guitar. My results are extremely rich and authentic - can’t say enough good things about these microphones. They run circles around my “other-brand” mics of similar price range. Great value - excellent results!
Paul S.
Roswell Pro Audio's Mini K87s are a dream to have in the studio. Having worked at studios like Bearsville and Sound City that had several Neuman U67s and knowing how versatile and beautiful they sounded, I am thrilled to have a matched pair of Mini K87s in the mic locker. They sound smooth and extended with zero frequency build up or harshness. They give you through the speakers exactly what the sound source is, much like ribbon mics but with extended lows and highs. They're flattering on vocals, acoustic and electric instruments. As stereo room mics on drums, the K87s sound amazing crushed through Distressors. I'm going to go ahead and put them in the "desert island" category because they're just that good.
Tyler K.
I absolutely love this mic! It has a beautiful, clear sound and works great on my vocals. I ended up having to return a previous mic and working with the company for the return was simple and painless. I would definitely buy from Roswell again!
